 | This Week... It's only a week until The Dark Knight Rises hits screens, and fans champing at the bit will be delighted to know that our coverage continues apace. Non-fans, meanwhile, can be reassured by the fact that we've also been busy elsewhere, chatting to the (clothed) stars of Magic Mike, the (also clothed) Steve Carell for Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, quizzing the directors of Ice Age: Continental Drift on their earth sciences and dissecting the latest Hobbit poster for clues about the film. Meanwhile, our intrepid team of Chris, Nick and James White have made their way to San Diego for this year's Comic-Con, there to talk to the stars, attend the panels and blend in with the other costumed lunatics. Keep your eyes on the site all weekend for all the latest news from there! Helen O'Hara Deputy Editor, Empire | | |

 | | | | | Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and since they're Triple Play, I guess we'll have to watch them three times each. | | | |
 |
 | | | | It's like a Wayan brothers writing session in here. | | | | | | Chris thinks that he and Dan are particularly on form. I guess. | | |

 | | | | | Explaining Ice Age: Continental Drift Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to tackle one of the great scientific conundrums of our age. No, not the Higg's Boson - that's been found. Not that faster-than-light blip either; that's been discredited. No, the conundrum to which I refer is Ice Age: Continental Drift. Let's recap. And yes, the word "overthinking" will apply to this entire blog. | | | |

| | | Empire Comic-Con 2012 Podcast #1 The new Empire Podcast is now available for your listening pleasure - but there's something of a tweak this week. Instead of the usual podcast, recorded here at Empire Towers, our team at Comic-Con in San Diego have recorded the first of three special daily podcasts discussing and dissecting the best of what they've seen so far at the world's biggest geek gathering. |
| | | Empire's Special Gremlins Podcast The effortlessly charming Zach Galligan - also known by his Twitter handle, @zwgman - stopped by the Empire Podbooth recently, and here below is the Gremlins-filled result. Concentrating mainly on his work with Joe Dante, Mogwai and Gizmo, Mr. Galligan explains just how complicated it is to work with so many wires down your top, as well as his temporary feeling of 'Gremlins fatigue'. |
| | | Channing Tatum And Matthew McConaughey On Magic Mike In Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey, Magic Mike has two stars who couldn't be more 'right now' if they had giant neon signs pointing at their abs. So far 2012 has been the Year of the Tatum, while McConaughey is currently on our screens with not one but two high-profile roles in Magic Mike and Killer Joe. As the pair pointed out when Empire met up with them, getting the two confused is a whole world of peril. "Both of them have very specific points of view," laughed McConaughey, who joined his co-star in sharing some of their favourite stripper moves in Steven Soderbergh's rom-com-drama-thong. |
| | | Judd Apatow Movie Poster Mashups What could be funnier than a Judd Apatow film? Well, how about some movie poster mash-ups based around his work as writer, director and producer of some of the best comedies of the past decade? We gave you, the readers, a theme, and once again you've knocked it out of the park. Nice work, ladies and gentlemen - and you stay classy! |
| | | What's Going On In That Hobbit Scroll Poster? Peter Jackson's epic, two-part take on The Hobbit arrives this Christmas and next, and ahead of the first serious glimpse of the film at Comic-Con later this week we posted a scroll-along poster for the film. But what are you looking at in it? We take a book-loving eye to the line-up - so there will be some spoilers if you haven't read the book. But we will try not to give too much away. |
| | | Steve Carell On Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World At the beginning of Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, Steve Carell's real-life wife abandons him in the face of the obliteration of global civilisation. In real life, happily, she's still there - but the star discusses whether it was foreshadowing in our interview. And while the subject may be the apocalypse, the good news is that Carell's on form. We even asked about Brick Tamland's role in Anchorman 2, so check it out... |
| | | The Making Of Ice Age: Continental Drift Judging by the last instalment, Ice Age: Continental Drift is going to be one of the biggest films of the year. The fourth outing for mammoth Manny (Ray Romano), sabre-tooth Diego (Denis Leary) and sloth Sid (John Leguizamo) sees the threesome cut off from their families and swept away on an iceberg as the earth moves around them. There are pirates, family issues to be resolved and a new love interest for Diego in the shape of Jennifer Lopez' Shira. We talked to directors Mike Thurmeier and Steve Marino about the film, taking over directing duties from Carlos Saldanha and what sets Blue Sky apart from the other animation studios out there... |
| | | Exclusive: John Wagner And Alex Garland Talk Dredd It's been 17 years since Sylvester Stallone stalked Mega City One sans helmet and upset a generation of Judge Dredd fans in the process. We're not expecting any of that vitriol to sully Karl Urban's new big-screen take on 2000 AD's mighty law enforcer, especially with Dredd creator John Wagner closely involved in the project and screenwriter Alex Garland promising a version that "commits completely to the character". With the pair sending the film to Comic-Con to meet its public ("I understand there's going to be a screening," says Garland), Empire chatted with them about the Stallone version, Dredd's uniform and those similarities with The Raid. | | | | | | | | | | | | | Alternative movie posters. | | A cat with a Batman moustache. | | Share It Maybe. | | Baby meerkats. | If you have any timewasters to share, then e-mail them in to us. | | | |
 |
 | | | | | Magic Mike The final act has an inevitable wavering patch when the film is obliged to tut-tut about the shallowness of the stripping, drinking, bantering, carousing and whooping it has previously enjoyed, but this is terrific entertainment with a sideline in wry melancholia and testosterone-fuelled philosophy. Have 20 dollars. | | | | Also Out | | | This week's video trailers and clips. Every week, our video player will update to show trailers and clips from the week's movie releases listed above. | | |
 |
 | | | | | Contraband It's not exactly put-your-manicurist-on-danger-money time, and Kate Beckinsale's role is shamefully underwritten (especially for an actress capable of carrying a franchise), but Contraband is a cut above cookie-cutter heist thrillers, and director Baltasar Kormákur looks ready for the big time. | | | | Also Out | | |
