This Week...

It's December, and with the colder weather and exponentially-increasing Christmassiness all around us comes not one but two exciting countdowns. First of all, we noticed that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits cinemas on the 13th, and we happen to have interviews with all 13 dwarves. How serendipitous! So you can read one of those each day, as well as extra Hobbity goodness, all the way to its release next week. As if that weren't enough, we're also running a competition with HMV offering you rather spiffing prizes every day until Christmas, just to warm your cockles this winter. And as usual we've got podcasts packed with guests, interviews with the likes of Colin Farrell, a breakdown of that first Star Trek teaser and much more. Santa Claus, frankly, needs to raise his game in comparison. We're coming for you, Saint Nick!

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Trailer
Here is our first look at Star Trek Into Darkness, and it's safe to say that the Federation is in for a really bad day but that cinemagoers might be in for a good one. With a voiceover by Benedict Cumberbatch's character that's heavy on vengeance and really light on rainbows, this promises some dark times for the crew of the USS Enterprise.

    European Film Awards 2012
A bit of context before the ceremony: this year's European Film Awards are taking place in the beautiful surroundings of Valletta, Malta, following a couple of weeks of quiet (and not so quiet) ructions within Malta's own modest film establishment. Despite a record year for domestic applications to the Malta Film Fund, it transpires that no visiting productions at all are currently scheduled to shoot in Malta next year. Cue bitter recriminations and accusations of incompetence and financial mismanagement from Film Service Providers Malta - a collection of production service companies responsible for managing most foreign productions filmed in Malta over the last ten years - towards controversial Malta Film Commissioner Peter Busuttil. Finance Minister Tonio Fenech dismissed the spat as a "personality clash," but it's a claim angrily denied by FSPM.

Colin Farrell And Martin McDonagh Talk Seven Psychopaths
Seven Psychopaths is In Bruges director Martin McDonagh's second full-length feature film, a meta thriller/revenge comedy that almost defies definition. What's not up for debate is that it stars Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken, Tom Waits, Abbie Cornish, Olga Kurylenko and Colin Farrell - and it's the last name in that long and illustrious list that joined McDonagh for a interview with Empire about all sorts of nonsense, from Die Hard in-jokes to Arnold Schwarzenegger's finest film...

    Charlotte Rampling Talks I, Anna
The one and only Charlotte Rampling spoke to Empire about her latest, the noir thriller I, Anna. Directed by her own son, Barnaby Southcombe, Ms. Rampling delivers a beautifully understated turn as the enigmatic title character, acting alongside Hayley Atwell, Eddie Marsan and Gabriel Byrne. Here below is our interview with the great actress, where she talks about everything from her favourite director to the weirdness of auditioning for her own son's project...

What We Learned From The Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Trailer

If you're reading this, you probably quite like Christmas movies. You may even be the kind of person who has done all their Christmas shopping already and wears a reindeer jumper from November onwards. When should you programme in Elf, and what's the right time for It's A Wonderful Life? For your convenience, we've assembled a Christmas timetable below...

    Seven Psychopaths

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

It may deal in part with a (literal) phantom menace, but this is thankfully not The Phantom Menace. The Hobbit plays younger and lighter than Fellowship and its follow-ups, but does right by the faithful and has a strength in Martin Freeman's Bilbo that may yet see this trilogy measure up to the last one. There is treasure here.

    The Dark Knight Rises

With spectacle in abundance and sexiness in (supporting) parts, this is superhero filmmaking on an unprecedented scale. Rises may lack the surprise of Begins or the anarchy of Knight, but it makes up for that in pure emotion. A fitting epitaph for the hero Gotham deserves.

    Also Out
    Santa Sangre Revolting yet impressive..
