 | This Week... Empire is in training. Next week is the biggest event on the geek calendar, San Diego Comic-Con, and we've been gearing up for it by quizzing one another on the name of Data's pet cat and which issue of Hulk saw Wolverine first introduced. It helps, of course, that this week also saw us refreshing our Pixar knowledge by interviewing Dame Helen Mirren and the filmmakers behind Monsters University, as well as talking to that fount of all knowledge Guillermo del Toro for his new film, Pacific Rim. But we tried to keep an edge of cool going as well, bringing together the very coolest in movie super-cars that you can actually own. Well, as long as you're phenomenally wealthy and unconcerned about carbon emissions anyway. Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire | | |

 | | | | | Karlovy Vary Film Festival 2013 That the 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival began with the international premiere of Michel Gondry's surreal Mood Indigo and ended with a Jury Prize for Ben Wheatley's psychedelic A Field In England should give you an idea of how this year's event turned out. Though it didn't want for Hollywood names - Oliver Stone and John Travolta flew in to accept the annual Crystal Globe For Outstanding Contribution To World Cinema - KV proved once again to be a festival of discovery and a good place to root out international movies that can no longer find a berth at Cannes. | | | |

 | | | | | 50 Movie Supercars You Could Own (But Probably Can't Afford) Fantasy movie cars are all very well - your Chitty Chitty Bang Bangs and your Benny the Cabs - but if you're a real movie enthusiast you probably want a film car you can actually own. Well, here's your lucky day! We've assembled 50 of the most ludicrously cool, ridiculously fast movie motors out there in one easy spot so you can plan your shopping list (once you win the lottery) and even highlighted the dangerous pitfalls to avoid in your ownership of each one... | |
| | | The Empire Podcast #69 There's one hell of a monster mash in this particular Empire Podcast, with Pixar's Monsters University going head to head with Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim this weekend. Will Sulley smash a jaeger all upside its robo-noggin, or shall Mike and co. be left trembling before the mighty power of del Toro's metal mountain men? Only time will tell. As well as an in-depth interview with Mr. del Toro himself, you can also expect our usual mix of general film chit chat - what's your favourite visual gag in cinema, by the way? - and movie news and reviews. Listen out for an IMDb page's worth of Pixar trivia, as well as an exclusive titbit of Indy info... |
| | | 12 People Who Could Play Doctor Strange But Probably Won't Like a juggernaut steered by an angry green man, the Marvelverse is careering into its third phase with a full cargo of bullion and fresh ideas aplenty. Edgar Wright's Ant-Man kicks off Phase 3, followed by two yet-to-be-officially-announced projects in the summer of 2016 and '17 respectively. One of those will be Doctor Strange, a project the studio's Kevin Feige calls "totally different from anything else we have". But who will step into the Sorcerer Supreme's magic shoes and carry Marvel's next superhero onto the big screen? We've had a lot of fun guessing. |
| | | Pacific Rim: Guillermo Del Toro, Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba Interviews Amid the giant monsters and giant robots of Pacific Rim, a cast of puny humans have to make their mark. Director Guillermo del Toro recruited an international bunch to pilot his Jaegers and combat his monsters, and we sat down recently to talk to Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman and Charlie Day - as well as the director himself... |
| | | Helen Mirren Talks Monsters University Helen Mirren plays Dean Hardscrabble in Pixar's very first prequel, Monsters University, but until we spoke to her about it, she hadn't come up with a word to describe her character's physical appearance. What she plumps for - 'dragipede' - should be forever remembered by all Monsters fanatics. As well as the Queen Of Screams, there's also the director and producer of the film, Dan Scanlon and Kori Rae, talking us through what it takes to make a movie as peculiar as this one... |
| | | World War Z Author Max Brooks On Zombies, Vampires And Jazz To many, Max Brooks is best known as Mel Brooks' son, but he's much, much, much than that. For starters, he's the man who brought us the Zombie Survival Guide at World War Z - recently adapted for the big screen - and for seconds, he's exceptionally clever and worryingly witty to boot, undoubtedly the first human being the President should call when the undead inevitably rise up to destroy us. |
| | | Introducing Head Smash The most anticipated action-packed graphic novel of the year, HEAD SMASH, heads to San Diego Comic Con for its debut. Tim Bradstreet, known for his work on The Punisher and Hellraiser, will attend to sign limited copies along with creator Vlad Yudin and Kanye West's art director Joe Perez. |
