 | The Oscar nominations have been announced, which means that now is the time for film fans to gather together and start shouting at each other. "Inside Llewyn Davis deserved better!" perhaps. Or "I can't believe American Hustle isn't up for Best Hair!". Or maybe you'll enjoy a full-throated row over the relative chances of Hustle, 12 Years A Slave and Gravity. Whoever you decide to bicker with over the nominations, we have all the ammunition you need, with loads of facts and figures already published (and more to come) so that you can win any argument. It's going to be a full-blooded, closely fought race this year, so the more prepared you are, the better. Now we better go and send some consolation gifts to some of the nominees who missed out : a Best Of Folk compilation for the Coens, a typewriter for Tom Hanks (he collects them) and a new pair of Louboutins to Emma Thompson. Wait, they cost how much?! Make that a nice pair of Crocs instead. Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire Captain America: The Winter Solider Exclusive! | | | The 100 Movies You Should See In 2014 There's a lot of chatter about the gigantic year that is 2015, but don't put yourself into suspended animation just yet. 2014 may not come wreathed in gigantic sequels (although it has a few) or boasting the return of a world-conquering space opera (although it may launch its own), but it has a wealth of original properties, exciting action and - hopefully - hilarious comedy. We profile the 100 best-looking prospects of the year for your edification. |

Anyone who has sat through the credits of a movie will have wondered what the people on the list actually do. | | | Udo Kier: Film By Film Guest of honour at last November's Night Visions festival in Helsinki was the legendary Udo Kier, presenting Flesh For Frankenstein, Blood For Dracula, House On Straw Hill and Doctor Jekyll & The Women. Springing forth with Dictaphone in hand, Empire grabbed several fascinating, wide-ranging chats that covered the directors and actors Kier has worked with, as well as the roles he's played. It's an entirely random sampling of his life and work, from conversations and Q&As that took place across the entire weekend. And the first rogue in the gallery, appropriately enough, is Udo himself... |
| | | 14 Things We Learned From The 'Evening With Sylvester Stallone' Q&A If you wanted to see Sylvester Stallone quoting Shakespeare, signing posters and regaling an enthralled audience with a seemingly never-ending roll of stories, there was only one place to be last Saturday night: the London Palladium. 'An Evening With Sylvester Stallone' followed in the footsteps of Al Pacino's similar sit-down career retrospective last year, with the star on great form and more than a few cinematic beans spilled. Here are just a few stand-out moments from both his interview with Jonathan Ross and the Q&A session with the fans. |
| | | 20 Sherlock Series 3 Secrets From Mark Gatiss And Steven Moffat We're only two weeks into 2014, but it's a safe bet Sherlock will remain one of the most talked-about TV shows of the year. In the run-up to its return, we spoke to showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss on the set of 221B Baker Street (as seen in Issue 295), also taking the time to talk to production designer Arwel Wyn Jones about the famous sitting room. Now that all three episodes have been aired, we spoke to Gatiss and Moffat once more about the public reaction to the new series, which bits were hardest to write, and the reappearance of You Know Who for a special spoiler podcast you can listen to in full whenever you like. Here, for the aurally-adverse, are 20 particularly intriguing moments. And, as you may have guessed, here be spoilers. |
| | | The Cast Of Deadwood: Where Are They Now? Deadwood: three seasons, 36 episodes, every other word a "fuck". David Milch's superb HBO Western series took the real history and many genuine characters from the South Dakota territories of the 1870s, and crafted a series that was riveting, brutal, often hilarious and always astonishingly written. The series was cut off in its prime for reasons never really explained (the official word seemed to be expense), and while there was talk of a couple of TV-movies to wrap up the storyline, these never materialised. Thankfully, we do at least have history to tell us some of what happened next. Deadwood burned to the ground in 1899, and Al Swearengen was found dead from a massive blow to the head on a Denver street in 1904. |
| | | Empire's Review Of The Year 2013 As we sail into 2014, it's important to wrap up the year that was. With that in mind, we spent much of December profiling the winners and losers of last year, the new stars who emerged and the unsung heroes who made the year, and the very best films, film music and action sequences of 2013. Read it all, or languish hopelessly uninformed... |

Robert Forster was in London this week, and we glimpsed him carrying his own bags to his cab because he's far too manly to let anyone else do it. Part of Sherlock episode The Sign Of Three was based on the Sherlock spoof. Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times is still freakin' hilarious on the big screen.
