Get Limited Edition X-Men Art Cards!
Plus 6 months of Empire magazine for only £20!

Following the excitement of the BAFTAs on Sunday (read all about that here if you missed it), this week we have been mostly discussing casting and re-casting. It looks like Jai Courtney is the new Kyle Reese; Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan are looking like the new Fantastic Four; and Jack Reynor joined those linked to Star Wars Episode VII (we've rounded up all the rumoured names here ). But of course most of our time and energy this week has gone on nervously shrieking every time we remember that the Empire Podcast Live is next Tuesday and we still haven't decided what to wear. Gucci, call us!

10 Best Picture Nominees Forgotten By History
Before supersizing itself to its current format, the Best Picture category was home to five good films and true. Each vied for the ultimate movie accolade, and while many fell at the final hurdle, some, like Raging Bull, Network and Apocalypse Now, found greatness anyway. But others have fared less well, fading away like groundfall in Hollywood's cruel and capricious orchard. When was the last time you curled up with a copy of The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming? Or Picnic? Here are the some of the more surprising Best Pictures nominee, subsequently consigned to the dustier end of cinema's DVD shelf...

    Tim Bevan Talks Everest
Last week saw the announcement of the start of production on Everest, Baltasar Kormákur's true-life tale of desolation and death on the world's tallest mountain. It's the story of two ill-fated expeditions in 1996 that resulted in the deaths of several climbers, including Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Rob Hall, a New Zealand climber played by Jason Clarke in the film. Empire spoke to the film's producer, Working Title's Tim Bevan, about what we can expect from the movie.

What Is 4K And Why Would James Cameron Want It?
Over the last few years even the casual film fan has had to learn the difference between native 3D and the post-converted sort; between 24fps and 48fps. But what exactly is 4K when it's at home and why do you need it? Here's a quick primer...

Classic Feature: Quentin Tarantino On Making Reservoir Dogs
Since this year is Empire's 25th birthday, we've been showcasing some of the best articles from the last quarter-century of the magazine. Recently we published our story of Mississippi Burning and this week we turn to the film that put Quentin Tarantino on the map, Reservoir Dogs, with the director and stars talking us through their crime classic...

Star Wars Episode VII: The Facts, The Rumours, The Mysteries
A steady stream of Star Wars Episode VII news, rumours, denials and scuttlebutt continues to hit the web, and as the start of shooting draws closer we are still - like someone suffering from hibernation sickness - pretty much in the dark. So we thought we'd round up what Donald Rumsfeld would call the known knowns, the known unknowns and the unknown unknowns: or to put it another way, the fact, the rumour and the mysteries to date. This is the current state of play, and we'll be keeping it up to date.

    Titanfall: A Survivor's Guide
After a weekend spent painting the landscape with blood, sweat and engine oil, Empire has emerged from the Titanfall beta test battered, bruised and longing for the full game's March 11 release. This latest, greatest contender for the online shooter throne is a bold new take on the genre and, as such, will catch new players unprepared. With the beta opening to the public today, we've assembled 10 essential tips to help you crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their teammates.

12 Classic World War II Capers More Fun Than The Monuments Men
Though it's a throwback to simpler times when movie stars queued up to give Jerry a thump on the kisser, The Monuments Men has a more high-falutin' agenda that most wartime capers. While George Clooney and pals set out to save liberated Europe's cultural prizes from Hitler and his band of goose-stepping morons, earlier Hun-bashing capers were breezier affairs, and here are a dirty dozen examples to prove it. Whether dressed up as a thriller, actioner or simply disguised as a narrow-eyed Nazi like Clint in Where Eagles Dare, here are some of the men-on-a-mission war flicks you should seek out.

    25 Of Cinema's Catchiest Earworms
According to The Lego Movie's super-catchy theme tune, 'Everything Is Awesome!!!'. In fact: "Everything is awesome / Everything is cool when you're part of a team / Everything is awesome, when we're living our dream / Everything is better when we stick together / Side by side, you and I gonna win forever, let's party forever / We're the same, I'm like you, you're like me, we're all working in harmony." And because these words will remains in our heads for the rest of time, here are 24 other examples of cinematic earworms that will never, ever go away. Enjoy!

They do four cheers in Sweden.

Jack O'Connell hasn't heard of The Fraggles.

The Almeida production of 1984 is brilliant, but the entire audience winced at the word "fingertips" so don't go if you're of a nervous disposition.

Martin and John Michael McDonagh have an "aggressive" five-a-side team. Watch out for them.

Gravity (the movie) isn't so unrealistic.

A quartet of fine fantasy books from the nice people at Gollancz.

    Only Lovers Left Alive

Haunting and idiosyncratic, Jarmusch's vampire marriage preaches to the converted, but he's in fine voice nonetheless.

The Godfather Part II Family values.
Nymphomaniac Volumes I And II You've Seen The Poster...
A New York Winter's Tale An airy-fairy tale.
Stranger By The Lake Cruising for a bruising.

    Blue Jasmine

Allen's best film in years, astute, humane and shot through with keen observations on the state of the world. It may also, in its pondering the price of deceit and the pain of rebuilding a life from nothing, count as broad social allegory.
