 | Parlez Vous Anglais? Here at Empire we get a lot of grief for bigging up Hollywood blockbusters and not paying enough respect to the bounty of world cinema on offer (Damon’s tweet disrespecting this year’s Palme D’Or winner nearly cost him his life at the hands of one angry reader). To rectify that, we have put together a feature to celebrate the glorious pantheon of titles not in the English language with the 100 Best Films Of World Cinema. Setting aside the beautiful game, we have opted to evaluate the nations of our planet, not on their footie skills but on their ability to create cinematic masterworks, and whether you’re a fan of Kurosawa, Jeunet, von Trier or any of the other greats, we think you’ll enjoy our selection. A Letter To Uncle Boonmee unfortunately does not feature ('Bored my knob off’-Damon). James Dyer Online Editor, Empire | | |

| | | Promotion Teacher Trailers This month we're pleased to hear that the FDA (Film Distributors Assocation) and the charity Film Education have been celebrating 10 years of their brilliant Teaching Trailers scheme, encouraging schools to analyse how UK film distributors bring films to market. Discs containing film trailers (released that year) are sent to participating schools for free. Students are invited to consider what elements you need to create a trailer, who the audience is and how the idea of a film can be conveyed without giving the plot away. The aim is to teach the kids to become “creatively critical” and “critically creative” and they can also have a go at making their own trailers! Trailers for 2010 include Shrek Forever After, Marmaduke; Despicable Me, 4-3-2-1; Scott Pilgrim VS the World, Housefull; Inception; Wall Street 2; Greenberg; The Last Airbender and Salt. |
