 | This Week... This week started with a large reptile visiting the office, but it really got going with a huge selection of screenings. We saw and reviewed David Fincher's latest, The Social Network - which might be the first film ever where the star playing a real-life person is marginally less objectively handsome than that person. There was also a full screening of Buried, followed by a Q&A with director Rodrigo Cortes, and we finished up on Thursday night by seeing silent masterpiece The General with live piano accompaniment. In short, it's business as usual around these parts as we gear up for the London Film Festival in a couple of weeks' time, and prepare to go see Back to the Future on the big screen this weekend, just cause we can. | | | | Basically, you've gone out of the office and someone's hit you over the head with The Magic Faraway Tree. Phil is concerned for Ali's sanity. | | | | | |

 | | | | | Is Duke Nukem Still Relevant? If anything has fuelled the long dwindling flames of the Duke Nukem Forever debacle, it's the particularly pungent whiffs of sweaty nostalgia. One minute the sequel to the popular '90s franchise was in development; the next it had vanished into oblivion; then every so often a teasing glimpse would be released, before an ensuing silence spanning several years. Throughout this extensive anguish the feverish passion of the fans has refused to subside. | | | |

 | | | | | The Jameson Empire Done In 60 Seconds Competition Is Back! Ladies and gentlemen, it's back - and this time it's personal. It's time once again for the Empire and Jameson Done In Sixty Seconds competition, where we ask you to recreate classic movies in no more than a minute. You must take a piece of cinematic genius (or not-so-genius if you prefer), boil it down to its essence and cram it all into a timeframe shorter than the life expectancy of the comedy sidekick in a slasher movie. To take part in this year's competition and be in with a chance of winning an Empire Award and attending the star-studded and glittering Jameson Empire Awards in March 2011, grab some mates and blag a camera from somewhere and get shooting. To sixty seconds, and not beyond! | | |
| | | Tony Curtis, In His Own Words Back in 2001, Empire's Chris Hewitt interviewed the late, great Tony Curtis for the magazine's Hall of Fame. Following his death, we reproduce that brutally honest and bittersweet interview here in full in tribute to a Hollywood legend... |
| | | The Greatest Tony Curtis Performances Tony Curtis (1925-2010) was that rare Hollywood beast, a talent who emerged from the shadow of a beefcake persona to became an actor of skill and daring. We look back at some of his standout performances. |
| | | Back To The Future: The Oral History It made DeLoreans, orange body warmers and Huey Lewis cool, and it's the finest time-travel movie of, well, all time. In a series of exclusive interviews, the three maestros behind Back to the Future - director Robert Zemeckis, writer Bob Gale and producer Steven Spielberg - return to the trilogy... |
| | | Video: Made In Dagenham Interviews Made In Dagenham is one of this year's homemade gems, a genuinely funny, feel-good drama brimming with top-notch performances and political bite. We caught up with director Nigel Cole, producer husband-and-wife team Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlson, and Jaime Winstone to find out about the movie's genesis, find out its name was changed from We Want Sex and hear about the joys of working with Bob Hoskins. |
| | | The Ultimate Collection Of Badly Photoshopped Movie Posters This week sees bank heist flick Takers hit our screens, and by and large, it looks like a half decent criminal caper. Its poster, however...? Not so much. Released back in September last year, the internet was soon laughing its metaphorical head off as the poster was sent around, and called 'the worst poster ever made' by pretty much everyone. So to celebrate this king of photoshopped movie poster fails, we've gathered together our favourites for your mocking pleasure. Enjoy! |
| | | Who Do You Want To Direct Superman? After Friday's revelation that there is a shortlist of Superman directors floating around Hollywood right now we thought we'd cut Christopher Nolan and the top brass at Warners out of the equation and put the issue of who should helm the Man of Steel's next adventure to the true experts: the Empire readers. So have a look at the pros and cons below and then vote for your choice for Supes' next director... |
| | | Guess The Bond Movie From The Dastardly Henchperson The name's Bond. James Bond. That we know. If anything, the fact that we know is further proof that James Bond is one of the worst espionage agents fiction has ever known, but that's by the by. What we don't know (for the purposes of this picture quiz, at any rate) is which film which henchman appeared in. So without resorting to Wikipedia, can you recognise each baddie-assistant and match him or her to the right film? Sure you can. We believe in you. |
| | | The 33 Greatest Movie Trilogies We asked you to vote for your favourite all-time movie trilogies, and you answered in your thousands. Some of you plumped for pure three-somes, untinged by inconvenient further sequels; others specified which three films in a series you meant - and, where there's a coherent narrative to back you up, we've allowed it. So here, without further ado, are the greatest film trios for your enjoyment... |
