 | This Week... It's been a gloriously short week, but one punctuated by highly entertaining films for the Empire staff. On Monday night, the foundations of our world were rocked by the combination of Vin Diesel, The Rock and a clear contempt for the laws of physics in Fast Five. If you haven't seen it yet, prepare to watch big muscly men smashing through brick walls in a gleefully demented action movie. On Tuesday, we followed up with a palate cleanser of alien worlds, Norse gods and Natalie Portman in the similarly rabble-rousing Thor. And on Wednesday, we topped it off with a big tasty serving of Attack The Block, which taught us that, in Sarf Lahndahn, no one can hear you scream. Film trios don't come much livelier - which is just as well, as we're hoping that this lot will have helped us burn off some of the calories we're about to consume by eating our own weight in Easter eggs this weekend. Happy Easter, all, and may the relevant Bunny be generous! Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire | | |

 | | | | | Threequels: The Good, The Bad And The Dark Knight Rises The other day, a friend asked me to name a good third instalment of a movie series, and I whipped out my go-to answer: Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade. Now, until then I'd followed the generally-agreed rule of filmic thumb that flicks ending with a 3 or III were rubbish. You know, sequels can equal the original (and, in some cases, better them), but threequels always suck as anything after number two (stop sniggering) isn't worth it. | | | |

 | | | | | Become A Music Documentaries Expert In Ten Easy Movies For as long as rock stars have fretted about tiny Stonehenges, confusing sandwiches and amps that go up to 11, documentary makers have been there to record the madness. Take Dig!, a sometimes hilarious, sometimes terrifying portrayal of musicians sacrificing sanity, friendship and the ability to string a coherent sentence together, all in pursuit of success. With stories as rich and raucous as that, a good musical doc doesn't even need an appreciation of the tunes, just a decent set of speakers and an open mind. Leaving aside concert movies, we've assembled ten documentaries spanning musical genres from indie to Congolese blues and representing a variety of filmmaking styles. Read it and add your picks below. | | |
| | | Exclusive: Arthur Interviews Say what you will about Russell Brand - and many do - but his interviews are invariably more entertaining than a troupe of juggling monkeys. He's latest role sees him playing a drunken playboy, a part, he jokes, he's been preparing for his entire life. If it's a Method part for Brand, his co-star Mirren tells us that she took the opposite approach, picking a role that took her miles out of her comfort zone. We caught up with the pair, as well as co-star Greta Gerwig and director Jason Winer to talk about the film. |
| | | Who's Who In A Game Of Thrones It's Deadwood meets Lord of the Rings! It's a fantasy TV show that you might be able to admit to watching! In public! You've almost certainly come across the publicity blitz for HBO's new must-see TV show, A Game Of Thrones, which debuts tonight. But what's it all about, when you get right down to it? Is it going to be another Xena? Or The Wire with broadswords? Here's a quick guide to who's who and what's what, since you should on no account expect this series to hold you by the hand and lay it all out for you. Well, the basics, at any rate: to call this plot "labyrinthine" would be an understatement. |
| | | Luc Besson on Adele Blanc-Sec Ten years ago Luc Besson fell in love with Jacques Tardi's comic book collection The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adele Blanc-Sec. After years of smooth-talking, Besson was finally allowed to adapt the story for the big screen - and the outcome is an adventure romp that combines shades of Indiana Jones with The Lost World and Amelie. It's 1912 and Adele Blanc-Sec, an intrepid young writer, sets off to Egypt to tackle mummies in the hope of finding ancient medicine to save her afflicted sister. Meanwhile in Paris, a 136-million year old pterodactyl egg has hatched and is subjecting the city to a reign of terror. We caught up with director Luc Besson recently to hear more about the film... |
| | | Exclusive: Empire Meets George R. R. Martin With fantasy epic Game Of Thrones rampaging across our screens, it's safe to say that if you don't already know your Starks from your Lannisters, you will soon. For one thing, it's just been renewed for a second season by HBO. With the show going clanbusters, who better to talk to than the man who create the world of Westeros, George R.R. Martin himself? "The second season will be Clash of Kings," the writer told Empire, as he elaborated on his feelings about TV adaptations, fantatical fans and the likely impact of Game Of Thrones. "I know we'll see a lot of other fantasy series and maybe fantasy movies 'cause Hollywood is imitative..." |
| | | The Ultimate Bunny Rabbit Picture Quiz Easter's just round the corner, which means it must be the season of daffodils, chocolate eggs, lovey-dovey-ness and, of course, cute widdle bunny wabbits. To celebrate the furry little buggers' enduring popularity in cinema – most recently seen in Russell Brand's jelly bean-defecating opus Hop – we've gathered together 27 of the cuddly wee beasties for you to identify the movie from. Some are easy, some are hard, and all of them contain bunnies. You know, of some sort of other... |
| | | Red Riding Hood Interviews How do you follow Twilight? Why, by directing an updated, teenage version of a classic fairytale of course. And if it contains another love triangle, so much the better! We sat down in LA recently to talk to director Catherine Hardwicke and stars Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Max Irons and Shilol Fernandez about their monstrous new take on Red Riding Hood... |
| | | Exclusive: Insidious Webchat When we heard that Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell were coming in for an Empire webchat we did what any self-respecting journalist would do and hid. Turns out there was really no need. They were totally lovely and, besides, the sharpest object in the office is a stuffed Yoda. The Aussie pair have moved away from body horror with their latest scarefest, Insidious, and stopped by for an entirely deathtrap-free 45 minutes to answer questions about that, as well as Saw, sandwiches and The Shining... |
| | | Empire iPad Designers Needed! Empire - the world's biggest film magazine - is looking for two designers to join its iPad edition design team and help forge the future of magazine publishing. The successful candidates will be talented, ambitious and highly organised, with a solid understanding of magazine layout and production. The responsibility of translating Empire's award-winning editorial into an entirely new medium is a large one, so the right people must be diligent and enthusiastic. They should also have ideas on how to take Empire's iPad app into new territories. Full details. | | | |
