 | This Week... After an epic journey around the globe – okay, the Circle Line – the movie torch has finally arrived in the Big Smoke. That's right, it's BFI London Film Festival time. The new-look fest promises to make previous LFFs look like a night in with a DVD and a tube of Smarties (and not even the big Christmas ones), with a host of filmic treats. Tim Burton's Frankenweenie got things underway on Wednesday with a burst of gothic splendour in Leicester Square , to be followed by a host of other treats. Then our thoughts turned to splendour of a different kind and the arrival on Blu-ray of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, celebrated in a week-long Indyfest. Yup, asps in 1080p. Very dangerous. You go first. | | | | | Empire Visits Fresh Meat Season 2 University life can be fraught. When you're not navigating around a mountain of dirty dishes or scratching out an essay under the malign influence of Pot Noodle, there's a full-blown identity crisis to cope with and no bloody teabags to help you do it. Take Kingsley, Fresh Meat's resident geology-turned-drama-turned-geology-again student. "He's gone away for the Christmas holidays and come back as a self-styled 'jazz man'," erstwhile Inbetweener Joe Thomas tells Empire. "And he's definitely overreaching." | | | |

A week's worth of Indybilia seemed about right, taking in making-of tales, concept art, quizzes, amazing behind-the-scenes stories and interviews. Hang your coat on our menacing coathanger and tuck in. | |
| | | The Empire Podcast #32 This week, Empire's audio edition was busy running the rule over Adele's Bond theme, Taken 3 and On The Road, talking cameos and welcoming some special guests into the studio. This week's podracers were Pusher pair Nicolas Winding Refn and Richard Coyle, who told us about silent disco and carrying $90,000 around Bangkok, as well as Ruby Sparks and Little Miss Sunshine pair Valerie Dayton and Jonathan Faris. Pod on, people. Pod on. |
| | | Screenwriter Jon Spaihts On The Prometheus That Never Was With Prometheus out on Blu-ray this week, Empire spoke to the man behind the original script for Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic, Jon Spaihts, about how he originally envisaged the prequel-cum-franchise reboot. Read on to find out more about the evolution of the xenomorphs - crab-like aliens, anyone? - Scott's creepy crawly collection and David forcibly attaching a facehugger onto Shaw's fizzog. |
| | | Hotel Transylvania: Meet The Ghoulish Guests With Halloween fast approaching, director Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory) is getting us in the trick or treating mood with his animated monster flick Hotel Transylvania. Featuring voice talent from the likes of Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi and Kevin James, and gathering all our favourite horror personas in spooky place, Hotel Transylvania is the most fun you'll have in Eastern Europe without actually being there. Empire spoke to Tartakovsky to see just how taxing it was bringing some of the most famously frightening faces together under one roof. |

 | | | | | Ruby Sparks Six years after Little Miss Sunshine, Dayton and Faris deliver a comedy that sparkles with wit and substance. But from the script to her portrayal of the title character, Ruby Sparks belongs to Zoe Kazan, who joins the likes of Sarah Polley and Brit Marling in the rarified ranks of actress/screenwriter double-threats. | | | | Also Out | | | This week's video trailers and clips. | | | | | Prometheus Buffeted by a lack of suspense, threadbare characters, and a very poor script, the stunning visuals, gloopy madness, and sterling Fassbenderiness can't prevent Prometheus feeling like Alien's poor relation. | | | | Also Out | | |
