Cannes open, Chris and Sam everywhere!
Yes, the biggest event on the festival calendar is here: the Cannes Film Festival opened this week with a bang (several of 'em, actually) and Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. Our Chris, Sam and Damo are of course on the Croissette to bring you all the news that matters in our daily videblogisodes - starting with not one, but two exclusive interviews with Russell Crowe himself on playing Robin Hood. Of course, the real drama comes from the continuing sexual tension between Chris and Damon, but hopefully you'll enjoy the star-studded supporting cast as well.

Third Inception Trailer Now Online
For months now, Christopher Nolan's Inception has been shrouded in the sort of secrecy of which the CIA might approve. But now, with the release of the movie's third and final trailer, the cat is somewhat out of the bag. And the cat looks like it could be the movie event of the summer.

    Damon Wise's Cannes Diary
Later last night, I planned to see Mathieu Amalric's Tournée (On Tour), about a promoter who brings a troupe of American burlesque dancers to France. A ticket to the Robin Hood party got in the way of that, and so I gave it a miss. I juggled my schedule to see it on Friday, but from what I heard at the party, I may not bother. Even the most kind reviews have painted Tournée as sketchy and episodic, while some of my fellow partygoers were downright scathing...

Video: Russell Crowe on Robin Hood
Kevin Costner? Scmevin Schmostner. There's a new Robin Hood in town, with none other than Russell Crowe slipping on the green togs to become the legendary hero. We went along to London's Dorchester Hotel to ask Crowe about the movie's long journey to the screen – and where he and Ridley Scott are planning to take the forest warrior next.

    Cannes 2010: The Video Diaries
They're mad, bad and dangerous to know - but the Cannes videoblogisodes are still essential viewing, bringing you all the news from the Festival that's fit to film. Our intrepid reporters, Chris Hewitt, Damon Wise and Sam Toy, are once again stalking the Croissette to bring you closer to the stars, the bars and the film premieres. God help Cannes...

A Beginner's Guide To Bill Hicks
Fiery, ferocious and, most of all, very, very funny, Bill Hicks was a true comic original. Much aped but never bettered, he's remembered in American: The Bill Hicks Story, a documentary-cum-biopic that interweaves Hicks' life story with rare footage of the man in action, usually with fag in mouth, tumbler in hand and gob set to stun. There were none like him. He was irreverent, unrestrained and, at times, a thorn jabbing into the side of government and media alike. And no one's ever said that about Russ Abbott. We interviewed the directors of the new documentary, Matt Harlock and Paul Thomas, to get the low-down on the man and the myth that was Bill Hicks...

The Complete History of England - In Movies
Robin Hood, out this week, celebrates a (semi-mythical) moment in English history wherein people robbed from the rich to give to the poor, men were men with longbows and women were maids who had no compunction about donning armour as necessary. But what about all the years preceding and following those events? For the delight of history teachers everywhere (maybe) here's your guide to the whole of English history, post Rome (we covered that here) with the occasional bit of Scottish and foreign history thrown in for good measure...

The Best Viral Movie Marketing At The Moment
As the 'net has become such an integral part of marketing movies, and in particular the blockbusters that arrive through the year, so viral campaigns have spread like, well, an infectious disease. This year, it's no different - but are they becoming over-used? We take a look at some of the current efforts and decide if they make us itch to see the final movie or just make us sick...

Team Empire Are Running! Sponsor Us!
This summer, a crack unit (er, us) will be escaping from a high-security stockade (the office) and disappearing into the East London underground. That's right, we're running a barely conceivable 10km around Victoria Park for The Everyman Cancer Campaign on June 6. If you've got a problem, and you can find us, we'll be the sweaty ones leaning against a tree.

We'd love your support for this worthy cause. Three years ago, our Deputy Art Editor, John, was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He's leading the Empire team to raise money for the Everyman Campaign, the most cost-effective cancer charity in the UK with over 90% of funds raised going directly into research. Please dig deep and donate now!

And with Chris Hewitt on the team, don't think of it as a donation, so much as an chance to finance a remake of Run Fatboy Run.

    Robin Hood
