 | 5 Days Of Summer Those of us still languishing in the Empire office may not be on the Croisette this week but it's been nice to get a small taste of Cannes via the medium of actual British sunshine. Yes, a handful of summery days had us emerging from our darkened office to stare bleary-eyed at a bright blue sky. Of course, you don't want to look at it too long or you'll go blind, plus you won't be able to dash to your nearest multiplex and catch the first showings of Prince of Persia and the surprisingly excellent Bad Lieutenant. Joining us in the office this week was director Brett Ratner, who answered all your questions on Rush Hour and the Beverley Hills Cop film in development – as well as taking a slight beating for X-Men 3. Meanwhile Chris and Damo have continued to wreak merry hell in Southern France so be sure to catch up with their latest escapades in this week's videblogisode. Until next time! | | | | | Red Dead Redemption Goes To The Movies Playing Rockstar's latest sandbox gunslinger, Red Dead Redemption, we couldn't help but notice more than a few references to some of our favourite Westerns. Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch is the most obvious influence, as you guide your character over the border to Mexico, rob a train, help a group of revolutionaries and mow down a horde of banditos with a maxim gun. Read more. | | | |

 | | | | | The Cannes Videblogisodes As the Cannes Film Festival kicked into high gear this week, our intrepid reporters Sam, Chris and Damo did the same, to bring you news and interviews from the Festival but also their patented brand of inspired insanity. Find out what Chris's conscience, aka Robin Hood's Mark Strong, has to advise him, contribute to an important charity appeal, and watch and marvel as Chris falls in love - again - this time with an inanimate object. | | |
| | | Video: Prince Of Persia Interviews Sands of Time, Daggers of Destiny... Prince Of Persia is not short of the odd magical MacGuffin. We thought it was high time to unleash our own - The Questions of Profundity - upon the cast and crew of the latest Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster. They told us about working for one of cinema's great alchemists, WMDs, rogue ostriches, and how to cope with bad hair while you're parkouring around ancient Persia. |
| | | Demonic Pacts: A How To Guide Movie characters like Jamie Morgan in this week's Heartless are always making dodgy deals with the devil or other hell spawn. And if Faust has taught us anything, they usually end up as a terrible idea in hindsight. Here's where they went wrong - and how you could do it differently if the need ever arises... |
| | | Michelle Forbes Talks True Blood Michelle Forbes is a virtual guarantor of must-see TV, after appearing in Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Lost, 24, Homicide: Life on the Street and most recently in True Blood as the flamboyant and rather mysterious Maryann. With Season Two of the show just out on DVD, we talked to her about the dangers of working with pigs and the British show she really wants to work on. Very minor, non-specific spoilers for season two may follow... |
| | | Nicolas Cage's Craziest Characters As Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant careens into cinemas, with full chorus of iguanas, crocodiles and Val Kilmer, we realised it's a showcase for Nicolas Cage at his most demented. We love it when he's unhinged, so we thought we'd pick a few of our favourite examples. Feel free to big up your own... |
| | | Brett Ratner Webchat Transcript Brett Ratner dropped into the Empire offices today to chat about his latest job, editing Bollywood film Kites for Western audiences, and his career to date, from the Rush Hour films to The Family Man to X-Men: The Last Stand. | | | | | Bad Lieutenant An exhilarating riff on the cop-thriller drama by a director at the top of his game — Herzog is also at his most accessible here — powered by an incendiary performance from Nicolas Cage. A very bad lieutenant, then. And a bloody good film. | | | | Also Out | | | Watch Video This Week's Video Trailers And Clips Every week, our video player will update to show trailers and clips from the week's movie releases listed above. | | |
