 | This Week... Remakes: it's a dirty word, right? It's inevitably associated with hacked-out Hollywood remakes of perfectly good foreign films and ill-advised do-overs of classics by hack directors. Well, maybe not, because we have assembled the 50 remakes worthy of a watch, from the perfectly respectable to the absolutely stellar. David Lynch, Michael Mann, Billy Wilder and Martin Scorsese: they're all represented. And this week we've also debuted the Biutiful trailer from Alejandro González Iñárritu and brought you the very cool Osymyso remake for Scott Pilgrim. Ooh, and Robbie Williams is reuniting with Take That, so what more could you ask for? (Our lawyers request that you not answer that). Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire | | |

 | | | | | Are Character Actors Getting Handsomer? Is it just me, or is there something of a trend at the moment for insanely handsome character actors? I keep coming out of films and saying "[insert name of Hottie McHot-hot] was the best thing in it" - and then finding that all my straight, male colleagues agree with me. Tom Hardy, Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, James Marsden: there's a whole bunch of young, fit actors who keep stealing films out from under their more established co-stars with naught but a sharp wit and a pair of perfect cheekbones. Read more. | | | |

| | | Guess The Movie Road Trip The road movie is a staple of American cinema, and a jolly bloody brilliant staple it is too. To celebrate cinema's greatest road trips, we've come up with this little Google Maps-based quiz (because we're clever like that) for you to guess which movie is which, just from the map – and, well, four other clues. But only if you need 'em, mind. Bon voyage, traveller! |

| | | Promotion Film Science: Future Human At The BFI In July, The BFI is hosting a two-month season that surveys the future human condition, with a substantial survey of science fiction in film and TV. Repeatedly, the films, ranging from Siegel's Invasion of the Body Snatchers to Tarkovsky's Solaris, ask what it really means to be human. In August, the season reflects one of our most compelling preoccupations: how human experience and society will evolve in the future. From Luc Besson's The Last Battle to Terry Gilliam's Twelve Monkeys, we are showcasing films that conjure disturbing post-apocalyptic visions of the future. | | | | | Inception Like The Matrix mated with Synecdoche, New York — or a Charlie Kaufman 007. To paraphrase Casino Royale's Vesper Lynd, it's a meaningful pursuit in a summer of disposable entertainments. With physics-defying, thunderous action, heart-wringing emotion and an astonishing performance from DiCaprio, Nolan delivers another true original: welcome to an undiscovered country. | | | | Also Out | | | Watch Video This Week's Video Trailers And Clips Every week, our video player will update to show trailers and clips from the week's movie releases listed above. | | |
