This Week...
It was a bizarre week in the Empire office - which is to say, pretty much business as usual. We started things going by getting Marmite all over Jeff Goldblum's shirt, attended the barbecue Amar's been planning for five years and took time to start a rumour about mashed potato and its relationship to The Last Exorcist that's going to run and run. The good news? Goldblum's exactly as awesome as you'd hope, the burgers were delicious and the Eli Roth and Daniel Stamm webchat went very well. But that's not all! The new issue of Empire, jam-packed with news on everything from Harry Potter to James Cameron's Sanctum, hit stores with a bang. Oh, and we've got our Damon Wise reporting live from Venice, so head on over for the first reactions to Black Swan, Machete and more!

Damon Wise At The Venice Film Festival
It's The 67th Venice Film Festival so decided to send our top man to Veneto to cover it. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it so we sent Damon Wise (just off camera) instead. Black Swan, Machete and a whole host of cinematic delights awaited Damo. Read about them all right here.

How To Be The Perfect Straight Man
Ah, Paul Rudd. In Role Models, I Love You Man, and now Dinner For Schmucks, it seems that our man Rudd is destined to forever be Hollywood's go-to guy to play the approachable, friendly straight man, taking Ben Stiller's stooge crown and popping it onto his own charming bonce. But making 'sthe funny guy' of the film look extra funny is no mean feat. It requires timing, poise and a lot of talent. In recognition of these unsung heroes, here's our eight-point guide on how to staying straight-faced - and still get the laughs rolling in...

Video: James Cameron Talks Avatar 2
Filmmaker, innovator, mogul and part-time submariner, James Cameron has added another string to his weighty bow with his stand-alone Avatar novel. He also shares some (unobtanium) nuggets with us about his expansion of the Pandora universe and his plans for Avatar 2.

Video: Jean Reno Talks 22 Bullets
The inestimable Jean Reno is Marseille gangster looking for the quiet life, Charly Mattei, in 22 Bullets. As the title implies, retirement is not all roses and lawn bowls for the ex-hood. Reno talked to us about the real-life gangster behind the story and comparisons with Leon. Incroyable!

Video: Jennifer Aniston On The Switch
She's one of the most talked-about women in the world, but Jennifer Aniston still seems very down-to-Earth in the flesh. We caught up with her recently to talk about her film The Switch, in which she plays a woman who turns to artificial insemination to have a baby, only to have the planned, ahem, material switched from a perfect donor to that of her friend, played by Jason Bateman. We asked her how it all happened...

    Shane Meadows On Shane Meadows
One of Britain's finest working directors, Shane Meadows has crafted a distinctive niche telling personal stories embued with wit, warmth and the odd gas mask-wearing vigilante. His CV now boasts its first TV project, a four-part serialised sequel to This Is England, picking up with the much loved Woody, Lol, Shaun, Milky and co three years later in the midst of 1986 World Cup fever. Down at the BFI to talk This Is England '86, the ever-friendly Meadows took time to look back over his filmography with us and share a tale or two.

    Not To Be Confused With...
For some reason, filmmakers keep stepping all over each other when it comes to titling their works. You think you're hiring a thoughtful arthouse flick, when onto your screen erupts a crazy action movie - or you're channel-surfing and land on a film you've heard so much about, only to find it's rather different than you remember. So to solve such conundrums and keep you on the straight and narrow, we've assembled an easy guide to films with similar titles, so you'll never be confuddled again...

A Guide To Between Two Ferns
As well as being a brilliant comedian and burgeoning movie star, Zach Galifianakis has, for some time now, been hosting his very own comedy chat show. Between Two Ferns, a mainstay of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Funny Or Die website, is a gloriously funny spoof in which Zach's grumpy and uncooperative host interviews/tortures a string of in-on-the-joke celebrity guests against the backdrop of an ultra-cheap talk show, complete with black-cloth background, sound issues and, of course, two flanking ferns. A rich tapestry of uncomfortable silences, inappropriate comments and outrageous nonsense, the tenth episode - with Sean Penn - has just gone up. So we thought we'd give you this handy cut-out-and-keep guide to the whole caboodle...

    Quiz: Guess The Movie Scar
Baddies, eh? They're often gruff-voiced, moody men, but the baddest baddies of all often have scars about their person, just to make them seem even more intimidating and evil. That, and a neat go-to topic of conversation when they're not out being really dastardly and that. Occasionally a goodie will even dabble in the field, to show that they have A Past. So in praise of the movie scar, and in tribute to those who soldier on regardless, we've gathered together some of our favourites for you to identify the film they're from. Some will be easy, some will not be easy. You have been warned, bub.

    The Last Exorcism Webchat
Eli Roth and director Daniel Stamm stopped by Empire HQ to talk The Last Exorcism. The found-footage horror, which is already scaring - and probably scarring - audiences in the US, is out this Friday in the UK. In anticipation we put your questions to Roth (who produced the film) and Stamm about the supernatural thriller, micro pigs and what to get Quentin Tarantino for his birthday...

Two B-movie schlockers from the good folk behind Ridley Scott Associates' vignette Tangled.

Daniel Stamm likes mashed potato. At least according to Eli Roth.

Autumn's officially here: human breath is now visible in the early mornings.

Tacoma is a port city in Washington (6 letters, first letter T).

Hundreds of people are still queuing outside the Covent Garden Apple store every morning. Weirdos.

The Empire office needs a baby elephant or two.

Sweary AND catchy? It's stuck in our heads and won't leave. Maybe the best action scene ever. The coolest man in the world, no questions. Roger Federer just rocks.

    The Last Exorcism

The method is well-worn and the subject-matter familiar, but this is a smart, scary little picture.

    Four Lions

Guaranteed to offend a lot of folks across the political and belief spectrum, but consistently funny and horribly to the point. A sit-com spin-off is probably not on the cards, though.
