 | This Week... It's two days and counting until The Jameson Empire Awards roll out a barrel of A-list glamour, movie razzmatazz and improbably tasty cocktails on an unsuspecting West End of London. Like a Cronenberg teleporter, minus the bug eyes and hairy arms, the ceremony sees your votes magically morphed into silverware for movieland's most deserving. Will George Smiley, Lisbeth Salander, Harry Potter or simian survivor Caesar snatch the Best Film award or will Ryan Gosling's Driver get to lay a gloved hand on the big prize? Tune in on Sunday from 3.30pm to find out. Live blogs, tweets, red carpet snaps, news, views and smoke signals... we've got 'em all. Apart from the smoke signals. But that's not all that's been keeping Team Empire busy. There's been a dazzling new Prometheus spot to chew over and Dexter Fletcher's first foray into filmmaking, Wild Bill, to soak up. Aardman founder Peter Lord also stopped by to talk Pirates!, and Zod himself, the legendary Terence Stamp, shared some salty tales. Head to the fourth instalment of The Empire Podcast for all that and more. Phil de Semlyen Deputy Deputy Editor, Empire | | |

 | | | | | 7 (Possible) Reasons John Carter Bombed At The Box Office At the time of writing, John Carter has made $184 million in ticket sales worldwide. Its production budget was $250 million, its marketing another $100 million. Disney have formally announced that it's writing it off as a $200 million loss for the company. Whatever you thought of the film, financially, it was a failure. There's no way on God's green earth or Barsoom's barren wilderness that this movie will make any money this year. Though a few - including ourselves - have seen the better side of the film critically, most outlets have given it a mauling, and audiences have stayed away. | | | |

 | | | | | Prometheus Trailer #2 Breakdown The second trailer for Ridley Scott's Prometheus launched today and has already caused something of a stir. Over the course of two and a half minutes, this trailer fills in some more details about the overall storyline of Scott's first sci-fi movie in 30 years, gives us more of a sense of its epic scope, and - in a couple of shots at least - explicitly says that this, after all the speculation, is a prequel to Alien. Here, in an incredibly detailed trailer breakdown, Chris Hewitt explores the links and much more. Warning: there are what appear to be MASSIVE SPOILERS in this breakdown. Do NOT read on if you haven't seen the trailer, or if you want to go into Prometheus as pure and unspoiled as John Hurt's T-shirt before lunch on the Nostromo. | |
| | | The Ultimate Archery Picture Quiz In The Hunger Games, out this Friday, Katniss Everdeen's weapon of choice is her trusty bow and arrow - a piece of kit that allows her to shoot a squirrel between the eyes at fifty paces. Of course, she's not the first archer to make their presence felt on the big screen, just think of Robin Hood, or Robin Hood, or Disney's Robin Hood - not forgetting Robin Hood, of course. So if you know your men in tights from your princes of thieves, your fletchers from your fletchings, then boy do we have a picture quiz for you. |
| | | The Hunger Games Interviews One of them is lethal with the bow and arrow; the other can hurl heavy objects long distances at death-inducing speeds. They're Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, heroes of Panem's Hunger Games, and pretty soon they'll be on poster walls across the globe. The stars who play them in The Hunger Games, Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence and fellow Kentuckian Josh Hutcherson, recently downed weapons to meet their public. Empire, who, to paraphrase Blackadder, can usually muster all the killing power of an asthmatic ant with heavy shopping, jogged down to meet them and ask about scoring the coveted roles and getting all buffed up to enter the arena. |
| | | Become A Musicals Expert In Ten Easy Steps Set hands to "jazz" people, it's time to put on the Ritz. The latest in our series that will enable you to convincingly bluff a masterful command of any genre focuses on the musical, a form that bloomed the instant that sound was added to moving pictures and has flourished, to some degree or another, ever since. Waltz with us from the golden age of the 1930s to the 1950s and '60s second coming; play the piccolino as we pass the 2000s biopics - Ray, Walk The Line - in our quest for the most essential and most representative of the bunch. Raise the red curtain, ladies and gentlemen. The show must go on! |
| | | Act Of Valour Interviews There are days when Empire is called on to do scuba diving, rappelling and knife-fighting, but then we usually wake up and make ourselves a nice cup of tea. No such luxuries for the characters in gung-ho actioner Act Of Valour. This Navy SEAL team eats danger for breakfast, spread cordite on its toast and take its morning cuppa with blood, sweat and tears. Played by actual real-life SEALs, the movie shows a team shooting its way through the War on Terror and the War on Drugs, all while promising their loved ones that they're make it home in one piece. Empire sent its bravest man to talk to co-directors Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy about their US Army-endorsed action flick. |

 | | | | | Wild Bill Yes, it's another East End gangster movie/dysfunctional family saga, but it's also a fresh, engaging debut feature, with an underlying suspense as we wait for the wild man to revert to pool-cue-wielding form and a streak of sweet, funny sentiment always in danger of being bottled by some nutcase. | | | | Also Out | | | This week's video trailers and clips.
