 | This Week... In an exclusive so secret we didn't even tell our mum about it, Empire had an access-all-areas pass to the British Board Of Film Classification this week. We went to Soho to watch the great arbiters of British movie-viewing at work, chat to their top dogs and, we'd hoped, do a bit of movie classification ourselves when they weren't looking. Sadly for any toddlers hoping to catch Insidious 2, we didn't get away with the latter, but we were given a juicy snapshot of this hugely influential body. And that wasn't it for the week's thrills. We asked an aviation expert to calculate the exact length of Fast & Furious 6's runway to the nearest metre, looked at the ultimate fate of Doctor Who's timelords and rounded up our big ol' celebration of movie music by canvassing your scores of the decade so far. How do you like those apples, Will Hunting? Special Empire Readers Offer Unsure which video services have the films you want to watch? Unclear when the newest films will be online? Confused by the sheer choice on offer? Not any more! Tank Top Movies is a new tool that tells you exactly where to find your movies, and when they'll be available. It's still in beta, but as film experts and general legends Empire readers can try it out now and help to shape the service into something amazing. Get your special invitation code here. | | | | | Cannes 2013: Some Thoughts On The Competition And Awards Last weekend, there was a lot of talk about sex in Cannes, especially the explicit lesbian variety on display in Abdellatif Kechiche's La Vie D'Adèle (pictured), also known as Blue Is The Warmest Colour. Its formal excellence and artistic daring made it an obvious choice for such jurors as Lynne Ramsay, Christoph Waltz and Cristian Mungiu, not to mention Ang Lee, whose own Lust, Caution caused similar controversy for its erotic scenes. But what about jury president Steven Spielberg? Would he steer it towards a less provocative contender, like Asghar Fahadi's The Past or Hirokazu Kore-eda's Like Father, Like Son? Or would he bite the bullet and face the wrath of the moral majority back home, where the issue of same-sex marriage makes the news on a seemingly weekly basis? | | | |

 | | | | | The Greatest Movie Soundtracks: A Celebration Over the past five weeks Empire's celebration of movie music has featured exclusive interviews, playlists, makings-of, and behind-the-scenes looks at some of the greatest movie scores ever committed to vinyl, CD or MP3. Heck, we've even learnt how to spell 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' along the way. It's all archived for posterity, right here. | |
| | | British Board Of Film Classification Ratings Podcast Special In an Empire Podcast first, readers posed their Twitter questions, queries and grievances on movie ratings direct to the man who oversees classifications on a daily basis, BBFC executive director David Austin. Why was Gremlins rated 15? What ever happened to What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?'s 18 rating? What's a 12A for, anyway? What happened with A Good Day To Die Hard? We made Austin a cup of tea, showed him to the hot seat and fired your questions at him for 45 fascinating minutes |
| | | Sex And Censorship: A Day In The Life Of The BBFC That austere film classifications body, the British Board Of Film Classifications, opened its doors to Empire for a one-time-only nose around. We found out what it's like to watch pornos for a living (not fun), how many c-bombs is too for a '15' (six) and what it's like having a cinema in your basement (pretty darn awesome). Join us for the tour. |
| | | 10 TV Showrunners That Left Before Their Time In a surprise move, Community creator Dan Harmon has announced that he's coming back to the sitcom he was unceremoniously fired from. It's a rare thing to make a show, be fired from a show, then come back to a show, but it's not unheard of, as this list-of-producers-who-were-pushed proves... |
| | | The Doctors Who: What Happened Next? Matt Smith is finally handing in his bow tie, leaving the TT Type 40 Mark 1 TARDIS to another Gallifreyan incarnation. When the news of his upcoming departure hit, internet speculators began speculating over who should replace him, but here at Empire the discussion turned in another direction: how did the careers of the other (re)generations fare after they shuffled off their immortal coil? Here is what became of the resulting research... |
| | | Exclusive: Shane Meadows On Made Of Stone As a fan of baggy pioneers The Stone Roses from the peak of their popularity to their messy dissolution too-few years later, Shane Meadows saw the opportunity to document the band's reunion last year as nothing less than a dream come true. Empire caught up with Meadows as he was putting the finishing touches to the film in late March, and wondered how it felt to be playing a real-life Marty Dibergi to his favourite band in the world... |
| | | A Brief History Of Superman Movie Trailers Despite how it feels given all the excitement right now, Zack Snyder's upcoming Man Of Steel is not the first Superman movie to ever hit our cinema screens. Here are the trailers for the previous four movies - don't worry, there's no Supergirl in the mix - to help guide you down teaser memory lane. If you were wondering whether you felt the same away about Superman Returns before you went to see it as you do about Man Of Steel now, look no further... |
| | | How Long Is The Runway In Fast & Furious 6? Everyone we know who has seen Furious 6 has come out marvelling at many things. How did The Rock get so muscly? Since when do officers of the London Met lean out the window of their car and fire machine guns in the street ? And how long is that runway? With the help of a stopwatch, a calculator and a small model made out of empty cereal boxes - oh, and a very helpful aeronautics engineer at GJD Aerotech - we have tried our best to unravel this mystery... |
| | | Empire Readers' Ten Best Soundtracks Of The Teens Empire's celebration of movie music kicked off a month ago with the ivory tinklers of the silent era. Since then, it's taken in the heyday of MGM and RKO, the might of Elmer Bernstein, Ennio Morricone and John Barry, the highs of Johns, Williams and Carpenter, and fanfared its way to the modern symphonies of Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and Clint Mansell. But all good parties must come to an end. Before we start fishing treble clefs from martini glasses and trying to coax Jaws' scary two-note motif from the swimming pool, we asked Empire readers to take us out with a bang - and you did, and then some. Here are the ten soundtracks that have been wearing out your iPods since 2010. | | | |
