 | This Week... This has been such a breathtakingly exciting week around these parts that we're basically all collapsed on the floor now attempting to recalibrate our sense of what's normal and what is - in Zack Snyder's favourite phrase - super-awesome. You see we've had half of Hollywood in the house, and the more exciting half at that. Man Of Steel screened in London and made us believe a man could fly even if he didn't wear underpants over his tights, so we interviewed the cast and crew to find out how they did it, in non-spoiler video and podcast form and, coming on Monday, in glorious spoiler-podcast detail. For any normal week, that would be enough - but we also fitted in interviews with Downton heartthrob Dan Stevens to talk about his new film Summer In February, and Mirror Mirror's Lily Collins for her new film Stuck In Love. Oh, and then we got all over this week's micro-budgeted Shakespearean adaptation Much Ado About Nothing, with a whippersnapper director called Joss Whedon visiting to podcast and his stars Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker also popping by. At this rate, next week should see the Dalai Lama and Oprah drop over for a cuppa and Justin Bieber turn up as our latest work experience candidate. He's going to have to wear proper trousers first though, or we're not letting him in. Special Empire Readers Offer Unsure which video services have the films you want to watch? | | | | | Chinese Propaganda Is Hitting Hollywood It is, by now, a truism that China is hugely important for Hollywood blockbusters. It's currently the second-biggest single film market in the world; by the end of the decade it's expected to be number one. Arguably, there's a nice rebalancing here: Hollywood looking beyond the West and becoming more inclusive around the globe. The problem is that China has an authoritarian government with an enthusiasm for censorship and propaganda - and Hollywood's beginning to adopt their attitude with a little too much enthusiasm... | | | |

| | | The Empire Podcast #65 We don't need to tell you a new Superman movie's out this weekend - after all, the theme's been stuck in your head for months now - but here we go anyway: Man Of Steel is out out out now now now, and we've got an interview with Zod's right-hand woman (Faora, played by Antje Traue) to prove it. We've also got Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer, but that's for next Monday's spoiler special... |
| | | Steven Spielberg And George Lucas On Hollywood's Future Earlier this week, a tiny clutch of journalists, Empire included, was treated to a state of the union address by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. The pair shared a panel at the School of Cinematic Arts to discuss the future of entertainment, and the picture they painted for movies was hardly a bright one. It was, however, a fascinating insight into an industry in flux. |
| | | 40 Unbelievable Movie Sequels You Never Knew Existed We live in a world where Lake Placid 4: The Final Chapter exists. The distributor sent us a cake to the office and everything ! Some of us, it transpired, were not even aware that there had been a Lake Placid 2, and this turned our easily distracted minds to the world of the Direct-To-Video sequel, where franchises can continue apparently without anybody watching them. Here, then, is a representative sample - though we'd love your suggestions for an expanded follow-up feature. Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown? Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision? The Rise And Fall Of A White Collar Hooligan 2: England Away? Let us know what should be added in the comment box below... |
| | | Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Trailer Breakdown Years ago, Alan Partridge pitched a show called Alan Attack to the BBC. Now, in 2013, Alan is under attack, in the feverishly awaited Partridge movie, Alpha Papa. The trailer finally hit the internet , giving us our first glimpse of the chat-based carnage that ensues when one of Alan's North Norfolk Digital colleagues goes postal and takes over the station. Having spent days on set in both London and Norwich, we're able to provide a few insights into what to expect. So buckle up tight and prepare for Alan's toughest challenge yet. Let's hope he brought his big plate. |
| | | Ten Things You Need To Know About Man Of Steel Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Michael Crawford's Condorman viewed through a particularly thick pair of specs on a foggy day? Nope, none of the above. It is, of course, Kal-El, aka 'Superman', a.k.a. the 'Man Of Steel', a mythic figure who soars back onto the big screen this week after a seven-year absence. As you know, Henry Cavill is the man assuming the mantle of Earth protector and bus-lifter in this crunching reimagining of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's superhero. Here's a quick primer before he flies into action... |
| | | Breaking Bad Movie Poster Mashups Make no methtake, there are some excruciating puns in this collection of Breaking Bad movie poster mash-ups, and that's the way we like it, bitch. Apologies for saying the word bitch there - in the context of the show, that's a vaguely amusing reference. Outside the context of the show, it could came across as rude. Sorry about that. Bitch. |
| | | When Is A Remake Not A Remake? Remakes, in internet comments if not box office, are the most unloved and reviled of filmmaking trends. This isn't always justified: we gathered the Remakes That Worked here. Still, "Why can't you make something original?" is the cry that's constantly heard. But there are films unfairly tarred with the remake brush that, while they might not necessarily be masterpieces, at least deserve to be judged on their own merits. Look more closely and you'll find that some 'remakes' are not remakes at all. |
| | | Empire @ E3 It's been a particularly exciting E3 this year, and we've been there to cover every new game, console and announcement as it happened. For the first word on the Xbox One and PS4 title fight or our impressions of the new games headed your way, head over to Matt Kamen's reports from the event for the latest gaming news... |
| | | Lily Collins Talks Stuck In Love Lily Collins made her screen debut in The Blind Side, which is a pretty good start by any definition. She has followed that with leading roles in Mirror Mirror, this week's Stuck In Love and this summer's The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. We met up with her recently to ask about playing a writer, whether her own experience as a teen journalist helped, and what we can expect from Mortal Instruments... |
| | | Exclusive: Empire Meets Dan Stevens Once of Downton Abbey but now a bona fide movie star in the making, Dan Stevens is a man of many parts. Aside from being an accomplished actor, he's a cricketer, a violinist and a part-time journalist. If you have a pile of wood that needs chopping, he can probably help with that too. But is there anything this man can't do? Well, we asked him exactly that at the press junket for Summer In February in a gruelling(ish) interrogation that took in celebrity Downton fans, the Ashes and 'Wink juice'. | | | |

 | | | | | A whole mess of Man Of Steel goodies for this week's release. We're just trying to figure out which one of these gives us the ability to fly. | | | |
 |
 | | | | | Man Of Steel It aches for more depth and warmth and humour, but this is spectacular sci-fi - huge, operatic, melodramatic, impressive. It feels the right Superman origin story for our era, and teases what would be a welcome new superfranchise. | | | | Also Out | | | This week's video trailers and clips. Every week, our video player will update to show trailers and clips from the week's movie releases listed above. | | |

 | | | | | Lincoln As unexpected as it is intelligent, thanks to virtuoso work from Spielberg and Kushner, Lincoln is landmark filmmaking, while Day-Lewis is so authentic he pulls off that stovepipe. | | | | Also Out | | |
