 | This Week... This week we've been talking quietly about Twilight - chatting to the stars, making a case that it's good for cinema even if you hate it, and looking back on the cast's early days. However, as we know from the ringing in our ears and the slight haziness of our vision, a lot of people spent their week screaming really, really loudly about Twilight. The premiere in Leicester Square on Saturday saw thousands of fans camp out for days to see their idols, and deafen all who approached with their enthusiasm. Elsewhere on the site, we went to Mr Ray Harryhausen's house to hang out with the stop-motion legend and meet his creatures, rounded up all those pesky Star Wars rumours in one handy place and - oh yes - brought you the entire Hobbit soundtrack for your listening pleasure. Don't say we never do anything nice for you. Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire | | |

 | | | | | The Amazing Spider-Man / MIB3 Press Trip Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Visiting Movie Locations As part of the recent Amazing Spider-Man / Men In Black III New York press trip - one that took place literally hours before Hurricane Sandy hit, believe it or not - a lucky few got to trapeze, bungee, helicopter, space shuttle, taxi and parkour around The Big Apple to celebrate the films' releases on Blu-ray. I was one of that lucky few, and I can safely say that it was one of the best adventures in Abroadland I've ever been on... but also one of the scariest. You know, in a way. | | | |

| | | Star Wars Episode VII Directors: Rumour Control [Director Name] Interested In Star Wars! [Director Name] NOT Interested In Star Wars! It's been a week and a half and already we've seen approximately seventy bajillion such stories. So rather than cynically run every breath of Star Wars news between now and May, 2015, we're going to gather all the whispers of director interest / disinterest and just plonk them here instead because honestly, when a busy person points out that they're busy that should not qualify as news. Here you can see all the runners and riders at a glance, without endless speculation about who is looking likely or not. You're welcome, world. |
| | | Five Movies To Fill The Downton Abbey Gap Season three of Downton Abbey is over, taking with it our weekly dose of period shenanigans and Maggie Smith in a range of marvellous hats. But if Sunday evening felt strangely empty, fear not. Before anyone emits a despairing wail and scares off the grouse, we've put together a range of Downton substitutes to help fill the void. Here's five flicks on Lord Grantham's Netflix list (we think) |
| | | The Twilight Legacy: How It's Changing Cinema Believe it or not, Twilight is a good thing, long term. It could usher in a slightly more equal era of cinema going, and could see better films being made that appeal to much of the same audience but don't exclude men - and here's why... |
| | | Thomas Newman On Skyfall's Soundtrack Amongst the hubbub around Adele's soaring theme tune and those recipes for Skyfall crumble, composer Thomas Newman's sizeable contribution to Bond 23 has been a little overlooked. So Empire got hold of the long-time Sam Mendes collaborator and threatened to shoot a glass of Scotch off his head if he didn't talk us through his Skyfall score and the origins of the gig. "I very shyly gave Sam a call", he grinned, "and said, just so you know, I'd be overjoyed to do it, but would never want to be presumptuous. He emailed me back: 'I was just about to call you...'" |

| | | Director Richard Bates Jr. On Excision Excision, a story of high-school awkwardness, peculiar proclivities, dangerous fantasies and horrifying amateur surgery, marks the debut of a unique new directing talent in Richard Bates Jr. After a successful life on the festival circuit, a small theatrical run and a massive five stars from Empire's Kim Newman, the film hits DVD and Blu-ray on Monday. We donned our scrubs and rubber gloves and approached Mr Bates with legitimate caution... | | | |
